Blurb taken from Goodreads:
Girls like me don’t get happy endings.
I know what I am. At worst a cliché, at best a cautionary tale. I put an international border between me and my past, only to wind up working in a low-end titty bar. Even my excuse is as lame as it gets: I’m paying for college, getting my art degree from Montreal’s most prestigious school. Although some days it becomes confusing: am I just a student who moonlights as a stripper, or a stripper who masquerades as a student?
But the inevitable happens and my two lives collide. And now there’s one other person who knows both the quiet, antisocial Hannah and the sensual, shameless Alicia. One person who keeps my secret.
He’s beautiful, he’s sophisticated. He comes from the other side of life, the one where I’m not wanted or accepted. But he calls me la petite Américaine, and his hot, hot hands on my skin promise me things I long ago gave up on.
The problem? He teaches my Classic Photography class.

"Her heart wept when she realized that the hardest part about loving him was the idea that his love was never meant for her."
Walking with a pronounced limp all her life has never stopped fifteen-year-old Kiva Mau from doing what she loves. While most girls her age are playing sports and perfecting their traditional Samoan dance, Kiva finds serenity in her sketchbook and volunteering at the run-down art center her extended family owns.
When seventeen-year-old Ryler Cade steps into the art center for the first time, Kiva is drawn to the angry and misguided student sent from abroad to reform his violent ways. Scarred and tattooed, an unlikely friendship is formed when the gentle Kiva shows him kindness and beauty through art.
But after a tragic accident leaves Kiva severely disfigured, she struggles to see the beauty she has been brought up to believe. Just when she thinks she’s found her place, Ryler begins to pull away, leaving her heartbroken and confused. The patriarch of the family then takes a turn for the worse and Kiva is forced to give up her dreams to help with familial obligations, until an old family secret surfaces that makes her question everything.
Immersed in the world of traditional art and culture, this is the story of self-sacrifice and discovery, of acceptance and forbearance, of overcoming adversity and finding one’s purpose. Spanning years, it is a story about an intuitive girl and a misunderstood boy and love that becomes real when tested.

Serena knows a few simple things. She will always be owned by a warlock. She will never have freedom. She will always do what her warlock wishes, regardless of how inane, frivolous, or cruel it is. And if she doesn’t follow the rules, she will be tarnished. Spelled to be bald, inked, and barren for the rest of her life—worth less than the shadow she casts.
Then her ownership is won by a barbarian from another country. With the uncertainty that comes from belonging to a new warlock, Serena questions if being tarnished is really worse than being owned by a barbarian, and tempts fate by breaking the rules. When he looks the other way instead of punishing her, she discovers a new world. The more she ventures into the forbidden, the more she learns of love and a freedom just out of reach. Serena longs for both. But in a society where women are only ever property, hoping for more could be deadly.

Courtesy of watching his mom’s relationships, Sebastian Hawkins knows what girls need to do to get a guy. He has what he considers a PHD in hooking up. When he needs extra cash for a car, Sebastian starts up an online venture as The Hook-up Doctor, to anonymously help girls land the guy of their dreams. Of course, his services don’t offer a happily-ever-after guarantee. He’s seen firsthand getting together never means staying together.
And then he falls in love…
With the last girl he would expect…
Totally not in his game plan.
Suddenly, Sebastian finds himself muddled in the game he’s always prided himself on. He can’t even pick up girls at parties anymore! Why would anyone want to be in love when it turns you into a stuttering, screwed-up, mess with really lame stalker tendencies? Stalking? Totally not his gig.
But the Hook-up Doctor won’t let himself go down easily. He’s always known how to give a girl what she wants and now it’s time to figure out what a boy wants… and he definitely plans on getting it.

Book Review: The Destiny of Violet and Luke by Jessica Sorensen
The Destiny of Violet & Luke by Jessica Sorensen (3.5 Stars)
Luke Price's life has always been about order, control, and acting tough on the outside. For Luke, meaningless relationships are a distraction-a way to tune out the twisted memories of his childhood. He desperately wishes he could forget his past, but it haunts him no matter what he does.
Violet Hayes has had a rough life. When she was young, she was left with no family and the memory of her parents' unsolved murders. She grew up in foster homes, living with irresponsible parents, drugs, and neglect, and trying to fight the painful memories of the night her parents were taken from her. But it's hard to forget when she never got closure-and she can't stop dreaming about what happened that tragic night. To make it through life, she keeps her distance from everyone and never allows herself to feel anything.
Then Violet meets Luke. The two clash instantly, yet they can't seem to stay away from each other. Although they fight it, they both start to open up and feel things they've never felt before. They discover just how similar they are. But they also discover something else: The past always catches up with you . . .

Idle Chat: What kind of music do readers like?
Idle Chit-Chats is where @ Jules Bookshelf talks about bookish and non-bookish topics that is related to a bibliophile.

Music & Books
Everyone would know that since I'm a book blogger that I always read books, but that isn't always the case, because I actually love listening to music as well.
I've been the kind of person that loves drama in books, I love deep dark stories, and I also
You can say that I'm a diverse reader as I enjoy reading a wide variety of genres -- from dystopian to contemporary to fantasy. And I think that reflects on my music taste too. I mainly listen to indie/alternative rock bands such as Florence + The Machine, The 1975, Coldplay, and the lot. But I also listen to pop music when I'm feeling bored or jumpy. Oh and EDM is a guilty pleasure of mine. Classical music is another favourite. So you can also consider me as a diverse music enthusiast.~ Miguel of The Quirky Reader
When it comes to reading, I'm a sucker for dystopian and post apocalyptic young adult novels. I love a strong, no nonsense heroine, an oppressive government or regime and a revolution brewing, those oppressed finally taking a stand. But when it comes to music, you'd think I'd probably listen to inspiring songs, Eye of The Tiger comes to mind. But no, my taste in music is nothing at all comparable to my favourite book genre. When it comes to music, I'm really laid back. I love Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Wolfmother, The White Stripes, but I love Jeff Buckley. Jeff Buckley drowned in 1997, aged only thirty one. Like any author, he was an artist that brought music to life, telling a story through verses he delivered. The moment I heard Lover, You Should've Come Over (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_eLuk4RjIQ), I was undeniably in love. But my favourite song of all time is without a doubt, Purple Rain by Prince (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LJlx8mMQ88). He's known for being eccentric and just downright strange, but no no can doubt what a huge influence he's had on the music industry. But I love old school tracks from the eighties, from Run DMC and the Beastie Boys, to Jodeci and R Kelly of the Nineties. Growing up in that era, I probably won't stray too far from what I know. But like books, I'm always looking for music recommendations. And that ends our discussion post for today, I know that this is not your average bookish post, but books aren't the only things we enjoy, right?
As long as it isn't a boy band [Just got to say that this made me laugh]

Book Boyfriends: Connor Cobalt
This is where I go girly and swoon and rant to you guys about my latest book boyfriend
* * *
Connor Cobalt of Kiss the Sky by Krista and Becca Ritchie
Its been awhile since I wrote something like this. I’ve been deciding that I need to be able to rant about this particular character, because whenever his name is mentioned, I literally became mush.
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT HIM
Connor Cobalt is different compared to the guys I usually read about, well…considering the usual kind I guys I like. I’ve always been known to love the bad guys and the funny guys in books.
I love his no nonsense attitude and his confidence with himself. Yes, sometimes he is conceited, but in a way, but it’s just who he is, and its charming to me, because it doesn’t sound cocky or arrogant when it comes from him. He is also a perfectionist with himself, but he never looks down on other people, even if he is much more successful. But what I love most about him, is that, despite him being successful and looked upon by other people, all he could see is the perfection of Rose Calloway. I love how he brings out the best in her, and how he compliments her character. He sees her as an equal, but at the same time, he would happily be willing to sacrifice his own success to be with Rose and to give her what makes her happy. Some guys would prefer to be superior to a girl, but I never saw that with Connor, he admires Rose for being determined and independent. He supports her projects and business. And he encourages her to be herself, and to pursue her dreams and he would never be intimidated if Rose succeed. He would revel and be proud of it, instead.
He’s not like most guys, he is definitely unique character, and I don’t think I could ever forget him.
So you're wondering why I don't have anything that I don't like about him. The fact love everything about him, so I don't have anything I dislike with him. :D
That's all for now?
How about you? Who's your latest book boyfriend? :D

They spent two short but unforgettable years together, full of lust and killing and the darkest kind of love that two people can share.

Book Review: Riot by Sarah Mussi
Riot by Sarah Mussi (1.5 Stars)
I received this book via Netgalley from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.Blurb from Goodreads:
It is 2018. England has been struggling under a recession that has shown no sign of abating. Years of cuts has devastated Britain: banks are going under, businesses closing, prices soaring, unemployment rising, prisons overflowing. The authorities cannot cope. And the population has maxed out.
The police are snowed under. Something has to give. Drastic measures need taking.
The solution: forced sterilisation of all school leavers without secure further education plans or guaranteed employment.
The country is aghast. Families are distraught, teenagers are in revolt, but the politicians are unshakeable: The population explosion must be curbed. No more free housing for single parents, no more child benefit, no more free school meals, no more children in need. Less means more.
But it is all so blatantly unfair - the Teen Haves will procreate, the Teen Havenots won't.
It's time for the young to take to the streets. It's time for them to RIOT:
OUR RIGHT TO CHOOSE, OUR BODIES, OUR FUTURE.

First Book Signing : My Experience at Veronica, Tahereh and Ransom's Signing
My First Book Signing
So yesterday, April 26. Something awesome happened in my bookish life. Yesterday, Tahereh Mafi, Ransom Riggs and Veronica Rossi had their signing here in the Philippines. I've always wanted to come to a book signing, just to know what will happen and to meet authors face to face. I've already put it in my bucketlist to try and go no matter what.
I got there 10:30 ish. I thought that a lot of people would barrage the signing early. So foolish me didn't go as early as planned. I was wrong. The line was suuuuper long. The crowd was already big when I got there.
![]() |
| Look at the crowd. I can't even see anything from the back :D Photo Credit: Irish @ Nocturnal Reader |
After I got to the end of the line, we went ahead and got registered. I even made friends while I was in line ;) tho we got separated after.
I became anxious because of the really big crowd, it was surprising jus how many people came to this event. The first person even came at 1:54 in the morning. The crowd was almost 2000 people in total. With that many people I was easily swallowed up. Thankfully I found my blogging friends right after.

| First time meeting! So happy :) Left to Right: Nix, Aimee, Dre, Ella, Me, Irish and Dyan :D Photo Credit: Irish @ Nocturnal Reader |
It was awesome to have the chance to meet them, even though the line to have our books signed was a long one, I enjoyed waiting because I had the chance to chat to them about books and stuff. Apparently I was the only one on TeamWarner in the whole group. Almost all of them were TeamAdam. Good thing all of us love Kenji to a fault! I'm glad I got to meet up with these gals, it made the event more fun :D and then... 1129 people after. It was my turn :)
Then it was finally time :">
Getting the chance to meet Tahereh was the biggest thing that happened ever. Technically she was the first author I got to see face-to-face and she's the first author that signed my book. She was so pretty, I was awe-struck by her that all I got to say was thank you at the end. Which I regretted.
Veronica was a dearie! She even asked how I was. "I was actually nervous." I said. But she encouraged me to not be nervous. I felt really welcomed by her, and that's surprising since she's the one in a different country. She's also really pretty and I was in awe of her glow ;)
Unfortunately I've not had a chance to meet Ransom since I didn't have a book from him (I planned to buy one but paperbacks were out of stock, sadly) But I did buy one after the event. She's so pretty... eerily pretty :D
HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY
- I got to meet for the first time all these book bloggers I've been talking with. When I got to the event, I got scared, because there were so many people, I was afraid since its my first time. But when I got to see Ella, Irish, Kate, Dre, Nix, Dyan and Aimee. I feel happy to be a blogger, rejuvenated. I was able to share being a bookworm and a blogger which some of my friends don't really understand. I'm glad I got to meet all of them, too bad Faye couldn't come tho.
- I never thought I would be the only TeamWarner fan in the group. Apparantly, I'm just fond of the bad boys ;) But I guess that's me.
- Ransom is probably the most cutest author guy I met. Too bad I didn't get to meet him. I'll be reading Miss Peregrine soon.
- Ransom and Tahereh were married. Just lately. I was in shock when I found out.
- Ransom was a complete gentleman. He even stands up when people take a picture with him.
- Veronica has a beautiful aura.
- Tahereh was super stylish, I loved her whole outfit.
- Tahereh also wore blue eyeliner and had her nails in different colors. And she looked awesome with it.
- Tahereh and Ransom kept tweeting pics. And picturing each other (AWWWWWWWWWWWWW MOMENT!)
- Tahereh is the most fashionable author I've seen so far.
- Ransom has pretty eyes
- Veronica had an interview with a local news station here in the PH
- Veronica had a girly signature
| Books I got by the authors |
So that's how my day ended. Happy, inspired, and exciting.
I can't wait for the next event.
Until next time :DDDD

Check out my gal's recap as well!
