Permanent Shadows (Punishment Sequence #2) by C.E Wilson (5 Stars)
Blurb from Goodreads:
When a friend from Teague’s old life comes to visit, it sets in motion a sequence of events that will rock the Pixi world and force Cailin to question everything she thought she knew.
She knows that her father has been keeping secrets, but it’s only now that she begins to realize just how little she knows. Now she is trying to figure out what Owen’s relationship is with her father and if Owen and Teague are really what she thought they were. Learning the truth comes at a price, and Cailin is left wondering who she can trust.
I loved the first book. Of course I loved this one as well :)
I am a bit sentimental with this series because it was the first book request that I had. I was lucky enough that I also loved the book. So when C.E messaged me saying that she is wanted me to review the sequel to Oath of Servitude, I immediately accepted. And I am happy of my decision because like the first book. I loved it!
After the tragedy of her coming back to her home. Cailin is once again in the home of the Ainsley's. Filled with worry of her family. She is confused with the sudden things that are happening around her. What's happening to the clan, why are other pixi around, and what is the Ainsley's connection to all of this.
It was nice to finally start reading this book. But I had to admit that it was a bit hard to remember who's who in the story, but luckily I caught up pretty quickly. I was excited to know more about what would happen to the story since the ending of the first book didn't exactly give any details as to what would happen next. For the first quarter of the book, I slowly got what would happen to the book.
Though I was still a bit confused with the plot of the book since it didn't give anything major in the first parts of the book, it wasn't until half of the book or near it did it get more exciting and mysterious. pacing was done well because it was balanced.
The characters of course are still as I read about them. Cailin was still spunky and cool. Teague was still cute and witty. Owen is still the strict parent as well as Nolkrin. In simple terms. It was as equally good to the first book, except it became greater because of the plot twists and style of writing.
The plot twist became a bit unpredictable and I commend C.E for that because its hard to write plot twists with fantasy novels (most fantasy novels are predictable anyways) and I don't know what specifically changed, but something in the writing was different. It was a good different though. It became more descriptive and intense. The words were well put together that they exuded emotions from the readers.
Long story short, it was greater than the first book in specific ways and I definitely can't wait for the next book.

I had a little chat with Teague and Cailin :) So I hope you'll enjoy it.
Hi Cailin and Teague! Its nice to meet you guys, sorry I’m kinda stars trucked right now :3
Cailin: Not a problem. We’re happy to be here. I understand that I can be a pretty interesting sight to take in.
Teague: Could you be a little bit more arrogant?
Cailin: Could you? *Turns and smiles* I’m sorry about him. But as I was trying to say before I was rudely interrupted, we’re both happy to come.
I’ve been a fan of you guys ever since the first book so let’s talk about that… what was your first reactions towards each other?
Teague: This one. *rolls eyes* She didn’t exactly give the best of first impressions, did she? Snapping at me all the time.
Cailin: You’re one to talk! She’s read the book, Teague. She knows how you are. You were a complete jerk to me! Throwing temper tantrums and drinking too much. I was the most reasonable one in that house for a few days! And I’m a pixi!
Teague: A pain-in-the-ass pixi who talks too much. *Smiles just the same* I had no idea what she looked like…for obvious reason but I could tell that she was beautiful. A pain…but beautiful. Her voice always caught my attention even when I tried to ignore her—
Cailin: When weren’t you trying to ignore me? Yeah, I guess I should say something cute and romantical. Teague’s a hottie. He knows it though so that’s what kind of ruins it.
Teague: Ruins it? What are you talking about? It makes it all the better. It’s called confidence, Cailin.
Cailin: Actually, Teague. It’s called arrogance. *Bursts out laughing*
Have both of you ever thought that you would develop feelings for each other?
Cailin and Teague simultaneously: No.
Teague: *Looks offended* Oh come on! You just said that I was a hottie! How can you say something so cruel?
Cailin: Uh…you said the same thing there, buddy, so how about we just move on?
Being…well… blind. What was your imagination of Cailin?
Cailin: He wanted me to look like his ex-girlfriend.
Teague: Hey, that’s not true! I never said that! When you asked me before, you simply asked for me to describe what I saw as attractive. And I did.
Cailin: Your ex-girlfriend—
Teague: *Covers Cailin’s mouth and she squirms to get free* Just let me get this out. When I first pictured Cailin, I knew she was going to be a knock out. Sometimes you can just tell by the voice. She sounded smart…and kinda sassy. Which I liked. I knew she was going to be hot…but I never imagined…I mean I never really imagined that I would actually get to see her. I’m glad I did. *Smiles and removes hand* So what’d you think? Did I get it right?
Cailin: *Tries to look huffy* I guess that will do.
What’s your first impression of Teague, Cailin?
Cailin: Oh man! Now we’re talking! Let me just say that—
Teague: Don’t let her answer that. That doesn’t matter now, does it? Am I really that same person?
Cailin: Dang. I guess not. You heard him, he doesn’t want to talk about that side of him anymore. The point is, he’s great now. I really…I really do care about the big idiot.
Teague: Such a sweetie you are. *Rolls eyes sarcastically*
Cailin: You love it.
Teague: Maybe I do.
This is for Cailin. Out of all the colors that could be your hair. Why red?
Cailin: Because it’s just…hmmm…I love that look in the sky when the sun’s getting ready to set. It was a color I loved growing up because night was coming and there were less pixi around. Other than my family I liked being alone and when night came…I didn’t have to worry so much about others watching me. I guess I wanted that color to be a part of me.
Let’s admit it Cailin. Teague here is an absolute douchebag (No offense ;D) at the start of the book, how did you manage to get over that?
Cailin: With something pixis have a lot of. Time and patience.
Teague: Don’t make me sound like a kid!
Cailin: But you are a kid…kid. You’re not even seventy.
Teague: Do you really want to see what I’ll look like when I’m seventy?
Cailin: Hmm…I guess not. That doesn’t take away though that you’re a kid. And I dealt with you as I would with a child. You were a whiny brat, Teague. You know that better than anyone.
Teague: But I’m better now, right?
Cailin: Alright, alright! You’re the best. You’re great, you’re good looking and that’s that.
Teague: *Smirks* That’s what I thought.
Cailin: Still a child though. *Winks*
Adjectives to describe Cailin, Teague?
Cailin: Beautiful, charming, witty—
Teague: Hey! She asked me! How would I describe Cailin?
Cailin: Pick your words very carefully, Teague. Remember, I’m stronger than you.
Teague: So you say…but for your information, Cailin. I was planning on saying something nice.
Cailin: Go on.
Teague: Best pain-in-the-ass ever! *Reaches out to give a sloppy hug and kiss*
Let’s do something fast and fun: Say what comes into mind :)
*Pizza or Pasta
Cailin and Teague: Pasta!!
Teague: Uh…Hmmm…blue…I think.
*What is the one thing that makes you cry?
Teague: I don’t cry.
Cailin: He’s lying. War movies make him cry. *Snickers* Oh and when his team loses in baseball.
Teague: Dammit, Cailin!!
* Most memorable moment with each other.
Cailin: I’ll let you take this one.
Teague: I know just what she’s going to say. The first time we kissed and I got to see her. It was great for me in that way and great for her…because she got to kiss me.
Cailin: So arrogant.
* Summer or Spring
Cailin and Teague: Spring
* Wings or Magic
Cailin: Wings. Definitely wings.
*(I just had to ask XD) Kissing or Cuddling
Both turn towards you, not revealing anything.
And for my final question, now with what’s happened in Permanent Shadows. What would we expect from you guys?
Cailin: I guess you’ll have to read and find out. Our story is available on Amazon and Smashwords. Only 99 cents and—
Teague: Come on…you’ve got to give a little more than that.
Cailin: Do you want to talk about when your ex MacKenzie visited? That was a mess.
Teague: I don’t want to talk about that.
Cailin: *Smirks* That’s what I thought! I will say though, the action really starts to pick up in this one. No more lazing around for this bum.
Teague: I’m not a bum, dammit!
Thank you so much Teague and Cailin. I am honored to have interviewed you here :)
